In the Wright Place at the Wrong Time

Back in March 2025, I shared my thoughts on the first four books in Robin Patchen’s The Wright Heroes of Maine series. When I published my post, I was halfway through the fifth book, Protecting You, and was certain of one thing: I loved this series.

If you missed my earlier post, please read it here: You Can’t Go Wrong with the Wrights.

Robin Patchen has a wonderful way of weaving together suspense, romance, faith, and family in a way that compels me to turn pages… fast! 😁 While her stories carry high stakes and plenty of danger, they’re also deeply rooted in relationships, both romantic and familial. The Wright siblings and cousins have become such familiar characters that returning to their world felt a little like catching up with friends.

Since writing last year’s post, I finished books five through eight, and I’m delighted to report the series continues to deliver.

Protecting You focuses on Alyssa Wright, the first of several female cousins introduced alongside the Wright men in earlier books. Alyssa’s story is interwoven with her cousins as it finally brings the ongoing “terrorist” storyline to a head.

I’d enjoyed meeting Alyssa in the previous stories, so it was satisfying to see her step fully into the spotlight. Her romance with Callum added emotional complexity to an already intense situation, and I appreciated how his life circumstances created tension and conflict, particularly within his family relationships. It’s funny how someone can be brave in one area of life and deeply conflicted in another.

As usual with Robin Patchen’s stories, there’s plenty of action, suspense, and some truly terrifying moments that had me reading faster just to make sure everyone made it through safely!

Capturing You put Alyssa’s sister, Brooklynn, into focus, along with recluse Forbes. They made an intriguing pair with her sunny optimism contrasting his more serious, sometimes grouchy personality. Yes, they were constantly surrounded by danger, but I really enjoyed the lighter spots in their early interactions, which provided some amusing moments.

This story also carries some heavier themes, which isn’t unusual for Robin Patchen. I also appreciated the faith elements woven through Forbes’s personal journey. Watching him wrestle with his beliefs and come to understand how deeply God loved him added meaningful depth to the story.

Defending You followed Cici Wright, where she and Asher took centre stage in another high-tension instalment. Seeing Asher reconnect with someone he’d once had a crush on fed readers some deliciously awkward moments, especially when it happened in the middle of danger.

I couldn’t help but like Cici. While she’s thoughtful and kind, she also carried insecurities and a touch of snobbery that made her feel “real”. Meanwhile, Asher was the quintessential hero: experienced, intelligent, and commanding even while carrying his own burdens.

And yes, some of the scenes were… intense. 😲

Fighting for You takes readers in a slightly different direction through Delaney Wright’s story. Much of the tale unfolds away from Maine, but despite the location change, it still carries the heart of the series.

Delaney and Noah’s romance added an interesting twist on the boss-and-nanny trope. Noah is a stressed guardian trying to hold life together, while Delaney is determined to prove herself capable and trustworthy. When a traumatised four-year-old is added to the mix, along with an age-gap romance and plenty of emotional tension, the result is another fabulous addition to the Wright family saga.

Eight books in and I’m not only still enjoying this series but looking forward to future instalments! Two more books are on the horizon, with Book Nine scheduled for release in May 2026 and Book Ten arriving in September 2026.

I’m not sure about you, but I’m looking forward to returning to Maine and seeing what happens next.

Until next time,
