The Why Matters

I’ve spent the last few weeks re-evaluating my priorities and contemplating the Why of life… especially the Why behind so many social media comments, blog posts and news articles I’ve read.

The assassination of a man who shared my faith has made me think.

For me, that’s meant more time in my Bible and in prayer. When I’ve read terrible comments online celebrating murder, I’ve gone back to the Source of comfort, reminding myself that we aren’t fighting flesh-and-blood enemies but powers of darkness (Ephesians 6:12). When my girls came home from school and shared how their friends repeated the “he didn’t want gun laws, so it served him right” rhetoric, I reminded them to imitate God and walk in love (Ephesians 5:1–2).

I’ve appreciated the reminder of why people do and say things, but even more so, the timely reminder of my Why. Why I believe what I believe. Why I chose Jesus at a young age and a wise (and cute!) Christian man when I was 20. Why we raised our daughters to love God. Why I write Christian fiction.

My Why was explained again and again at Charlie Kirk’s memorial/celebration service earlier this week: that my Saviour sacrificed His life to give me life, here on earth and after death.

My Why is Jesus, and my prayer is that one day He will be yours too.

Until next time,
