I mentioned in my Who Inspires You? post earlier this year that I plunged into writing after reading a Julie Lessman novel. Yes, her story inspired me to write, but it wasn’t the sole reason.
When I was a teenager, I read a heap of Christian fiction. My mum had (and still has) an extensive library and I would grab a book in-between study or during school holidays and imbibe a series. But you know the number one thing I noticed?
Australia rarely featured in these stories.
I don’t think I read any Christian fiction written by an Australian. I read stories written by American and British writers, and learned all about American prairies, World War II Europe and Regency England. But nothing Australian.
Years later, while reading Ms Lessman’s books, a desire to share my home bubbled inside me. Using the many years of memories of visiting family in the country, my experiences formed the foundations of the world of Tellarine and the characters within it.
I live in a pretty special place, and this month my beloved country is being highlighted in “Aussie August”!
I’ve joined several wonderful Australian authors to celebrate Australian Christian fiction. Whether you enjoy historical or contemporary stories, romance or Biblical fiction, there’s something for everyone!
Why not check out an Aussie author this August?
Until next time,
