I’ve been blogging about Emma St Clair since my very first book review post (this one here), but my love for her books goes back even further—to when I first discovered her Sandover Beach series, long before her Love Clichés romcoms catapulted her into the spotlight.
*blows on fingernails and polishes them on shirt* Told you I’m a genuine fan. 😉
Jokes aside, my admiration for Emma St Clair (in a totally non-stalkery way) is the real deal. I can power through her novels faster than a kleptomaniac at a lost and found, simply because I adore her writing style, witty dialogue, and snappy banter. Whether it’s a feel-good romcom, heartfelt romance, or women’s fiction with emotional depth, her books are always moreish to me!
So you can imagine my glee when I was offered an advanced copy of her upcoming traditionally published release, If All Else Sails. I finished it earlier this week and couldn’t wait to share my thoughts with you.

If All Else Sails is a standalone romantic comedy that brings together an injured hockey player and an elementary school nurse in a delightful slow-burn closed-door romance. It’s packed with some of my favourite tropes: enemies to lovers, grumpy-sunshine, brother’s best friend, forced proximity, a dash of unrequited love… and yes, even the iconic “one bed” scenario. 😂
In true Emma St Clair style, there are laugh-out-loud moments, swoony scenes, and a few deeper threads woven throughout… just like real life. A perfect blend of fun, romance and reality.
Wyatt and Josie’s dynamic was full of sparks and a little snark. From Josie’s arrival at the “little murder cottage” to the slow unravelling of her long-held grudge, it was a joy watching their relationship shift. Despite their tangled past filled with misunderstandings, their journey felt believable and was satisfying to read.
Bonus points to Ms St Clair for loosely tying this story into her Appies Hockey Romance world! This novel is set a few years after that series, with cameos from familiar faces sure to delight longtime fans (and should hook new ones too!).
If you enjoy sweet romances with hilarious mishaps, heartwarming characters and swoony moments, If All Else Sails releases 5 August 2025. Preorder it now or borrow it on Kindle Unlimited once it’s out… you won’t regret it.
Have you read any of Emma St Clair’s books? Which one’s your favourite? I’d love to hear in the comments!
