Will You Be Caught in the Echoes of the Sea?

If you’ve been here a while, you’ll know I’m a sucker for time travel romance. Whether it’s swoony medieval knights or modern-day jump-and-save adventures, I fall hard every time (like in Jody Hedlund’s Waters of Time series, which I’ve blogged about).

When I spotted Sarah M Eden’s Echoes of the Sea on NetGalley, I jumped at the chance to read it, even though it’s the second book in her Storm Tide romance series.

This was my first experience of reading Eden (though several of her ebooks are waiting in my Kindle TBR!). I had no trouble diving straight in despite it being book two, so it works as a standalone.

Echoes of the Sea follows Kipling Summerfield, a modern-day London actor whose career has taken a turn for the worse. He accepts a less-than-glamorous job as a historical re-enactor on England’s Guilford Island, but upon arriving is swept away in a storm… straight into 1803. 😲 There, he meets Amelia Archibald, a woman burdened by grief, fear of the sea, and the indignities of being the “poor relation”.

I loved how believable the time travel element felt. Kip’s confusion stretched out longer than in most romances of this type, but it made sense because his entire world was supposed to look like a historical site. So, of course he assumed everything was an elaborate performance. I appreciated this thoughtful layer of realism.

I also loved Kip and Amelia! Their tenacity was inspiring, and despite all the personal trials they had both endured, they remained kind and genuinely lovely people. Many of the side characters were equally memorable.

While some heavier themes were woven into the story (my jam!), this sweet closed-door romance shines. It struck a balance between swoony moments, heartfelt trials, and the kind of hope that makes time travel romances a joy to read.

If you’re new to Sarah M Eden, as I was, Echoes of the Sea (or better yet, the first book in the series, The Tides of Time) is a great place to start. And if, like me, you adore time travel romance, this one’s bound to sweep you away.

Have you read any of Sarah M Eden’s books? I’ll be reading more of her stories in my TBR soon!

Until next time,
