Life has been full lately. Between long days of researching several decisions (which somehow consumed far more brainpower than expected!) and my general non-author life busyness, my reading pace has resembled a sloth. I realised how hard I’d been running today because I haven’t finished a novel in over a week… highly unusual for me! 😅
Thankfully, before life became chaotic, I read two delightful romantic comedies that shared two unexpected similarities: both heroines are fiction authors… and both own cats. Accidental on my part, but funny once I noticed. 😂
With Mother’s Day approaching, I thought these two romances would make lovely recommendations for readers wanting something light-hearted, romantic and fun.

Falling into Fiction by Victorine E Lieske was a fabulous surprise and a strong start to a new series. The premise alone hooked me: a romance author falls asleep while rewriting her manuscript only to wake inside her own fictional world. Such a novel idea (pun not intended!).
Charlotte was easy to connect with from the beginning. She’s introverted, creative and carrying deeper loneliness beneath the surface. Meanwhile, Nick secured his position as an elite book boyfriend… literally! 😂 The chemistry between them worked because Charlotte knew how the story was “supposed” to unfold… and everything kept running off-script.
What surprised me most was how anxious I felt for Charlotte and Nick. The more attached I became to them, the more stressed I felt trying to figure out how on earth this romance could work. I genuinely didn’t know how the author planned to resolve things, which made the story even more addictive.
Also, there’s a cat. Ha ha!
Vivienne’s Regency Romp by Ana Waters releases next week and absolutely charmed me. It’s also the delightful beginning of a new Christian romance series and my first novel by the author, though it won’t be my last. I immediately fell in love with her writing voice: bright, witty, romantic and delightfully chaotic in the best way.
Vivienne is an aspiring romance author obsessed with Regency novels, while Blake is her real-life billionaire Darcy inspiration… except far more frustrating. Their enemies-to-lovers tension had the right amount of bite, banter and unresolved attraction to keep me glued.
The side characters added so much fun to the story. Between Vivienne’s writer friends, Blake’s overbearing mother and one “princess” of a cat, something entertaining was always happening. The entire story felt like a warm hug for Jane Austen fans while still feeling modern and fresh.
I also appreciated the faith thread woven throughout the romance. It felt natural, hopeful and added heart beneath all the humour and romantic chaos.
If you’re looking for feel-good romances for Mother’s Day and beyond, these stories are well worth adding to your list, especially if you enjoy bookish heroines, romantic chaos and a little feline interference. And the best part? Both were a lot of fun.
Until next time,
