Diving Back into the Fire

If you’ve been here a while, you might remember my review of Bri Tucker’s story Into the Fire by Irene Hannon, the first book in her Undaunted Courage series (you can read the review here).

Late in 2024, my wonderful sister gifted me the paperback of Book 2, Over the Edge. A thoughtful gift from a thoughtful lady, but in the back of my mind I knew Book 3 was going to be released later in 2025 (this week, in fact!), so I kept the story on the shelf (literally). When I was approved for an ARC of Out of Time (Book 3) last month, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to reread Bri’s story and then binge the entire trilogy back-to-back.

Now that I’ve turned the last page, I’m filled with mixed emotions about this Christian romantic suspense series. Glad for my time with each Tucker sibling, but sad to say goodbye.

Over the Edge is a gripping suspense-filled romance and another fabulous Tucker family instalment. Although this is a standalone, having Bri’s story fresh in my mind helped me appreciate the Tucker family connections even more.

I loved diving back into Bri, Jack and Cara’s worlds through Jack and Lindsey’s story. Ms Hannon throws readers directly into the action with Lindsey discovering a murder scene in the opening pages and hiding from the killer. Yes, frightening! Good thing St Louis County sent its best detective in Jack Tucker.

Intrigue, unexpected revelations, and a lot of misdirection follow. (Many thanks to Ms Hannon for distributing breadcrumbs that led to the wrong place. 😉😂) Despite some scary moments, I enjoyed Jack and Lindsey’s romance. Witnessing the way Jack opened up over time and the brief yet heartfelt moments with his sisters endeared me further, plus discovering all the satisfying answers to the odd things Lindsey experienced.

Out of Time is another suspenseful romantic journey and a delightful end to the series. Cara Tucker has intrigued me throughout her siblings’ stories, and I admit I’ve been curious about the “deficiency” she hinted at in both previous books. Without giving spoilers, I’ll just say the matter was handled beautifully by Ms Hannon.

I loved Cara and Brad’s romance. Their unexpected “meet cute” included many sparks, and despite the weird, wild, and downright disturbing events that unfolded, they still gravitated to each other. Their romance was the sweetest of the trio (which is saying something!). There was something… lovely about it. Gentle and fragile, yet strong. It suited the couple perfectly as they both nursed considerable wounds. It’s funny how a book can dish out high-adrenaline moments yet wrap them around such a tender, hope-filled love story.

Beyond the romance, this story had some truly twisted moments! It didn’t take me long to figure out who the “bad guy” was (reading three Irene Hannon novels in a row has its perks 😆), but there were still several surprises and a rather sombre, hard-hitting twist.

Bravo, Ms Hannon, for gifting each Tucker sibling with a happily-ever-after they deserved.

If you’re new to Irene Hannon’s romantic suspense novels, the Undaunted Courage series is a great place to start. Each story stands alone, but read together, they paint a wonderful picture of faith, family, and courage through trials.

Until next time,
